From experimentsinmotion:

Andrew Gargus found this recent article from Gothamist that rediscovers plans for a mid-city circular landing platform and recalls the brief period when commuters could reach the city via a network of helicopter landing pads.

We still haven’t solved the problem of landing airplanes on top of buildings - New York Airways shut down in the late 70’s after a series of accidents.

The Pan Am building was sold to Metlife in 1981 - given it’s size and prime location next to Grand Central Terminal could it once again serve as an aerial hub for Manhattan?

Is there a way that the subterranean and air space of the city could be fused together through a network of public spaces that functions independently from the regular city grid?
